Diving Costa Maya |
One of the most popular activities for any Mexico beach vacation is scuba diving.
Scuba diving resources are abundantly available all along the Caribean Mexican coast with many of the popular resort towns offering great deals that combine scuba diving with accommodation and other travel plans.
All the Yucatan is home to some of the world's most beautiful Cenote cave diving experiences and the Caribbean Coast allows you to dive the Great Maya Barrier Reef, which stretches 320km from Cancun to Mahahual. The Mexico's Reef is home to a fantastically diverse range of species and is the second largest reef in the world after the Great Barrier Reef in Australia.
Always a favorite with divers, we are fortunate to have an abundance of friendly Sea Turtles here and it is not unusual to see at least one on almost every dive. Common sitings include Eagle Rays, Lobsters, Spadefish, Moray Eels, Parrotfish, Trumpetfish, Puffers, Creole Wrasse, Angelfish and most all of the typical Caribbean reef fish and corals.
Certification courses are offered at most of the dive facilities along the Costa Maya. A certification in ocean diving, referred to as "Open Water Certification", takes about four days. The minimum age is 12 for junior certification and 15 for a regular certification. Instructors are licensed by a variety of SCUBA certification agencies.
