Calderitas |
Calderitas is a small fishing village located 6 kilometers north of Chetumal City and counts with a colorful history dating back to prehispanic times. This is evident due to the archeological sights of Ichpatun and Oxtankah, located just 5 kilometers from the village. Calderitas is also witness to the first mestizo in America.
You can count with adventorous activities of nature where you can practice your kayaking, sailing, water skiing, snorkeling and fishing. The main economy is its restaurant industry.
Calderitas is the gastronomic paradise in the south of Quintana Roo, where you can find a delectable variety of internationaland local sea food dishes. You can enjoy this while gazing at the majestic bay. Restaurants offer conch, shrimp, lobster, ceviches and a vast array of assorted culinary extravaganzas.
It's surrounding host various sights and villages such as Punta Lagarto, Raudales and Laguna Guerrero, which is home to "Daniel" a small manatee which was rescued in Chetumal Bay.
The bay is considered a sanctuary to this endangered species. Yuo can rent a boat for a cruise to Tamalcab Island located just 2 kilometers from the coast. The island hosts a vast variety of natural fauna and wildlife such as thespider monkey, coati, fishing eagle and other variety of bird.
