Bacalar

In Bacalar, located by the shore of the "Seven Colors Lagoon", a prodigal nature and a unique history are interwoven in a magaical tapestry.

Founded by the ancient Maya, it was an important pre-Hispanic commercial outpost, where merchants and other travelers found provisions and lodging in their route south to Guatemala and Honduras. Its population suffered like no other the rigors of the Spanish conquest. Once it was estabilished after several years or armed resistance, Bacalar became the most important Spanish bastion in what today is the State of Quintana Roo.

The Bacalar’s sweet water is a paradise of natural beauty with a fascinating past and many stories to tell.
